The Year 2512

Fun story, for my 24th birthday my Mom bought me “The Greatest Journal Ever” from Incredible journals and encouraged me to write my daily gratitudes. At first, I laughed…How could I imagine writing in a daily gratitude journal? Who has time for that…fast forward one year and a panini later, I am grateful I tried my best. As the one year chapter of the Pandemic closes, I reflect on my writings to lean into abundance. The Pandemic has traumatized the global community, as certain police continue to traumatize my own community in viral reach and recurrence. These events have caused anxiety and depression, but have led me to healing and growth. I am grateful to be here today, so I am reflecting on my journal entries to inspire tomorrow. As I continue to post daily bread@2424, there will always be slices of gratitude from my journal.

I recently started reading the book, “Black Imagination” curated by Natasha Marin because Dr. Christina Cleveland graciously recommended the writing during the Inclusive Collective 2021 Justice Retreat. Since reading, I have been affirmed by bold, radical and truthful reflections on black futures and origins .

Tonight, I happen to be reflecting on my 12.16.20, pre-pandemic, journal prompt, which asks me to “Write a story about life in 2512, What has changed? Who is in power? What does the world look like and how does it run? What is your role in this new world?”

Here is my reflection, pardon the journal grammar 🤷🏾‍♂️:

In the year 2512 humans will have discovered a deeper sense of what it means to actually…be human. Connecting to their inner peace to drive creativity and new ways of connecting and developing the universe. In this new world, the people are in power. Everyone has autonomy of their bodies and life goals. We will be in a society where everyone has basic needs that set them up for the life they choose. If I am still alive in 2512, I want to still help people process their stories to help them connect to the beauty of creativity that lies right inside of them. Hopefully my school, businesses and communities will be foundations in starting the transformation into the new world. - mma 12.16.20

Reflecting on my hopes for the future gives me hope today. I have faith our Black imaginations will transform our personal and collective futures globally. If you have faith in your Black imagination and would like to share, please leave your response to the prompt! I love to read and listen.
